Title: Tax Manager
Job Purpose:
The Tax Manager will be responsible for all compliance, advisory and reporting matters regarding tax in Egypt. The responsibilities will cover all the entities in Egypt that are (or will be) members of the Hikma Group. He/She will also provide support for any Egypt-related activities for other members of the Hikma Group.
The Tax Manager will report directly to the Egypt Financial Controller and have a dotted line reporting to the Group Tax. They will work closely with the local finance team, regional finance team, and Group Tax teams based in Jordan, the UK, and the US, as well as various corporate finance and treasury functions.
The Tax Manager is required to demonstrate full transparency and integrity in sharing all relevant information with the Group Tax department and local management to collectively take any appropriate action.
Duties and Responsibilities:
CORPORATE TAX AND VAT COMPLIANCE
Oversee all compliance matters related to tax in Egypt including corporate tax, and VAT the details of which are listed below:
- Prepare tax calculations for the monthly and periodical tax returns and forms with the tax authorities
- Ensure timely submission of the tax returns in accordance with established procedures and ensure the obligation of routine reporting to the tax authorities
- Develop and manage good relationship with the company's commercial finance team, including working with accounting to improve data reporting processes necessary for tax compliance
- Develop a good relationship with the tax authorities
- Ensure timely payment and documentation of all taxes including corporate income tax, VAT, withholding taxes, etc.
- Managing the relationship with local external tax advisors and ensure communication with relevant stakeholders on any advice received from the tax advisors
- Maintaining relevant documentation and proof of withheld taxes by local customer against corporate income taxes
- Monitoring of any changes in tax legislation as well as other legislation likely to have an impact on the activity of the company and immediately communicate such changes to the local and regional finance team as well as the Group tax team
- Managing all ongoing and future tax audits including support with any legal disputes with the tax authorities
TAX PROVISION AND ACCOUNTING
- Preparation of the tax provision in accordance with IFRS accounting standards on a monthly, interim and annual basis (under IAS 12 and IAS 34).
- Assistance in the preparation of the local audited financial statements in accordance with local GAAP rules.
- Analysis and management of locally booked deferred taxes
- Analyzing the income tax provision (tax payables) and deferred tax assets and liabilities on the balance sheet to ensure the correct booking
- Working on the preparation of the forecasted current and deferred tax expenses and effective tax rate (”ETR”)
- Understanding and applying the local forecasted ETR to the mid-year actual PBT for interim reporting in accordance with IAS 34.
- Working closely with the Group tax function on monthly, interim and year-end tax provision calculations.
- Provide tax support regarding the day-to-day business activities of the company in collaboration with the Corporate Tax / Finance / Supply Chain team.
- Ensure timely communication with the Group tax team on any audit or tax risk which would result in a booking of an uncertain tax position
TRANSFER PRICING
- Supporting the Group Tax and local finance functions in the analysis of intercompany transactions to ensure such transactions are in accordance with the arm’s length principle
- Supporting the Group Tax function in the preparation of local transfer pricing documentation as required by local legislation
- Submission of relevant transfer pricing documentation and forms to the tax authorities are required by law
- Continuous monitoring of tax law changes related to transfer pricing and communicate such changes with the relevant local and regional finance and tax stakeholders
OHER TAXES
- Be the subject matter expert to respond to any queries related to personal tax, stamp tax, customs etc. and coordinating with external advisors as necessary
- Work closely with the local and regional teams for HR, Finance, tax, etc. to respond to any tax query and coordinate with the Group Tax department on specific requests including any advice to HR on personal tax matters
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum: A degree in accounting, finance or related field and with a tax focused experience at one of the Big Four accountancy firms or as an in-house tax manager.
- Minimum of 10-12 years’ experience in global / multinational pharmaceutical companies or similar dynamic operating environment and a good understanding of the healthcare business
- Excellent knowledge of tax codes and tax procedures and the commercial code.
- Excellent knowledge of Tax Compliance issues, including regulatory tax compliance environment.
- Excellent accounting and tax accounting knowledge.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in Arabic and English.
