In this role, the Manager of Buy Operations is responsible for overseeing and managing the procurement and supply of raw materials, excipients, active pharmaceutical ingredients, and purchased finished goods. The role ensures that all necessary materials are available to meet production demands and customer needs, while maintaining cost efficiency, quality, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Procurement Strategy Development:
- Develop and implement purchasing strategies for raw materials, excipients, and finished goods to meet production and market demands.
- Collaborate with suppliers to negotiate favorable terms, and delivery schedules while maintaining product quality and compliance.
- Ensure that procurement processes align with the overall supply chain and production goals of the company.
- Vendor & Supplier Management:
- Identify, evaluate, and maintain relationships with suppliers of raw materials, excipients, active pharmaceutical ingredients, and finished products.
- Manage supplier performance, ensuring reliable delivery, quality, and cost effectiveness.
- Inventory Management & Demand Forecasting:
- Work closely with the operations planning to forecast material and product demand, ensuring optimal inventory levels.
- Implement strategies to reduce excess inventory and minimize stockouts, while aligning with production schedules and market needs.
- Monitor market trends and adjust purchasing plans to accommodate shifts in demand and pricing.
- Supply Chain Optimization:
- Optimize the procurement process by streamlining workflows, improving lead times, and reducing waste in the supply chain.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders such as production, quality assurance, and logistics to align procurement activities with the company's broader goals.
- Develop contingency plans for supply chain disruptions or material shortages to ensure uninterrupted production.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead and manage a team of procurement professionals responsible for day-to-day buy planning activities.
- Set clear objectives, provide mentorship, and conduct performance evaluations to foster a high-performing team.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration across the procurement and supply chain teams.
Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business, Procurement, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in procurement, supply chain, or buy planning within the pharmaceutical industry, preferably in generics.
- Strong knowledge of raw materials, excipients, and finished goods used in pharmaceuticals.
- Experience with ERP systems and software (e.g., SAP).
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Strong understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and regulatory requirements for pharmaceuticals.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree is a plus.
- Experience working with solid oral dose, nasal sprays, liquids, dry product inhalation, unit dose inhalers or high containment products.
- Familiarity with international suppliers and global sourcing strategies.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
